Oddlands Magazine: Star Fall by Marcie Lynn Tentchoff
After the stars fell he spoke in riddles,
chanting tales of broken hearts
and broken orbits, whispering words
of freedoms born in dying suns
and dying dreams, but always smiling,
limping in his too-tight boots,
his long black trench coat flapping
in the absent breeze, he moved from
town to town, from ruin to ruin,
and gathered people from their homes,
to follow him, to chant his chants
and praise his wisdom, while,
around his red-rashed neck,
a glowing slice of star-stone
winked and twinkled out its laughter
at the bitter irony of light.
